PAS Youth Exchange Program(PYEX)
The Pacific Asia Society hosts the Pacific Asia Youth Exchange Program(PYEX) annually
with a slogan "Pacific Asia Neighbors Forever" to introduce Korea and educate globalization.
Participants who are selected from the PAS Youth Corps teams perform community services.
Supervisors recommend college students who enthusiastically cooperate with PAS Youth
Corps activities and have interest in cooperation and mutual prosperity in the Pacific Asia
region.
 
Objectives
The main objective of the program is to promote proper comprehension of Korea.
Communication would be a valuable tool to increase mutual cooperation among Pacific
Asian countries.
 
Programs

On the basis of the main objective of the program, there are three-dimensional following

approaches.
1. The Experience of Cultural Heritage
    Traditio is a custom that is embedded in tangible and intangible traces of the past and
    the present.  This theme focuses on understanding of Korean culture through experiece
    of cultural heritage.

       Experience of Korean food : Visit to a Kimchi factory of Doosan Corporation,
          Hoengsung Gyeonggi Province

       Observation tour : Visit to Kyungbok Palace and Korean Folk Village

       Special event : Visit to World Ceramic Exposition, 2001
2. Transition Period of Korea
    The objective of the theme is to promote the comprehension of the Korean modern
    history through learning about major events such as the Korean War, April 19
    Democratic Revolution, and the Saemaul Undong (a campaign to modernize Korea
    throughout the country in the 1970's) in transition period of Korea.

       Korean War : Visit to War Memorial of Korea

       Democratic Movement : Visit to National Cemetery for the April 19th revolution

       Understanding the partition of the Korean peninsula : Visit to Panmunjom at the
          38th Parellel.
3. Korea and Pacific Asia Today
    People who live in the 21st century should share common vision of Pacific Asia in the
    current globalization era.  In this regard, this theme provides certain moment for
    harmonizing their thought.

      Home stay, Industrial tour to KIA Motors Co., Visit to National Assembly,
      Visit to World Cup FIFA 2002 KOREA stadium
