PAS Youth Exchange Program(PYEX) |

The Pacific Asia Society hosts the Pacific Asia Youth Exchange Program(PYEX) annually |
|
with a slogan "Pacific Asia Neighbors Forever" to introduce Korea and educate globalization. |
|
Participants who are selected from the PAS Youth Corps teams perform community services. |
| Supervisors recommend college students who enthusiastically cooperate with PAS Youth |
| Corps activities and have interest in cooperation and mutual prosperity in the Pacific Asia |
| region. |

Objectives |

The main objective of the program is to promote proper comprehension of Korea. |
|
Communication would be a valuable tool to increase mutual cooperation among Pacific |
|
Asian countries. |

Programs |

On the basis of the main objective of the program, there are three-dimensional following

approaches.

| 1. The Experience of Cultural Heritage |
| Traditio is a custom that is embedded in tangible and intangible traces of the past and |
| the present. This theme focuses on understanding of Korean culture through experiece |
| of cultural heritage. |

Observation tour : Visit to Kyungbok Palace and Korean Folk Village

Special event : Visit to World Ceramic Exposition, 2001

| 2. Transition Period of Korea |
| The objective of the theme is to promote the comprehension of the Korean modern |
| history through learning about major events such as the Korean War, April 19 |
| Democratic Revolution, and the Saemaul Undong (a campaign to modernize Korea |
| throughout the country in the 1970's) in transition period of Korea. |

Understanding the partition of the Korean peninsula : Visit to Panmunjom at the

| 3. Korea and Pacific Asia Today |
| People who live in the 21st century should share common vision of Pacific Asia in the |
| current globalization era. In this regard, this theme provides certain moment for |
| harmonizing their thought. |
